This concept is better explained by a hypothetical example:
Demand Trend Analysis from Google Trends
The company, in our hypothetical example, offers mine trucks for sale to mining companies in South Africa and would like to expand their market reach internationally.
The company would like to research the market in order to do a feasibility study in targeting countries that carry demand for their products.
During the demand trends analysis we want to find out:
1. What does the demand trend look like. Is the demand growing, shrinking or constant.
2. Which search phrases have a greater demand.
3. Which countries are showing the greatest demand for the offer.
Search Trends
The first part of the report shows in graphical format the search demand in Google for the search phrases “mine trucks” and “mining trucks” worldwide for the past 5 years.
The inferences we can make from the graphs is that:
1. The market is constant for both search terms.
2. The search term “mining trucks” has a higher number of searches than “mine trucks”.
Geographic Distribution of Demand
Here we can see that the highest demand for “mining trucks” comes from the Philippines and going down the list there are 26 regions showing demand. Remember that although there is a higher demand in this region, the actual number of searches will be lower than those in larger economies. Because there inherently are more people using the Internet in those countries.
We will get to the actual number of searches in the second part of the report. In order to simplify the example we will only look at this search phrase. You will obviously get the full data set in the actual report.
Demand Search Numbers from Google Keyword Research
In order to abbreviate the example, we will only look at the actual search numbers in the the country with the highest demand (Philippines) and a larger economy – India. This way you’ll be able to see the actual number of searches in Google in both countries, juxtaposing the actual demand.
The research variables consist of:
1. Keyword – the service related search phrases that are being used by the market in the country in Google.
2. Avg. Monthly Searches – the average monthly searches for each keyword.
3. The Competition Index Value – how competitive each keyword is in the Google Ads network. The closer to 100 the more competitive the keyword.
4. The Top of Page Bid – what we can expect to pay Google each time someone clicks on the ads.
5. Avg. monthly searches in the previous twelve months.

Having all this information helps you to make informed decisions based on empirical data provided by Google.
